On the Mat

Respect is a requirement that goes both ways.

As a new member of our Academy, it is important to understand that you are entering into a lifestyle of discipline and mutual responsibility with your peers and instructors. Following are some basics about martial arts etiquette and studio rules:

  • Address your instructor as Sir or Maam.
  • Bow before entering the mat.
  • No shoes on the mat.
  • Always ask permission to join or leave class.
  • Students must keep fingernails and toenails trimmed.
  • No horseplay.
  • No jewelry to be worn in class.
  • Students must work out in clean, white uniform.
  • No eating, drinking or chewing gum on the mat.
  • No loud talking.
  • No sparring or breaking without the instructor's approval.
  • Protective equipment is mandatory for sparring.
  • Never talk in class except to ask a relevant question or answer one.
  • Avoid bringing valuables to class.
  • All students should be on time for class. Those who arrive early should take time to ¬†stretch.
  • Martial arts techniques should not be applied outside of the class unless circumstances involving your safety or the safety of others is overriding.
  • Don't ask when you are going to test; trust that the instructor will let you know.


Family and Friends

We welcome visitors and recognize the important role that family members play in providing support to students throughout their training. We also recognize the need to provide a safe and quiet environment that promotes the focus and concentration of all students. To accomplish these goals, visitors are asked to follow the following rules.

  • Check in at the front desk
  • All talking should be kept to a quiet whisper.
  • Brothers and sisters, friends and family should stay off the mat.
  • No one should attempt to communicate with students on the mat.
  • All food should be eaten outside of the studio.
  • No talking on cell phones inside the studio.
  • No smoking.
     

Student Identification

All students will receive an identification card upon sign up. Please do not lose this card. There is a $5.00 replacement fee.

Lost & Found

A lost and found box is available in each studio location. Please ask a staff member if you need to search the lost and found.
